Young people who make a positive difference in Slough will be celebrated as the Slough Youth Awards return. Do you know an incredible young person or youth group in Slough who deserves to be recognised? Maybe they’ve overcome challenges, made a difference in their community, discovered a creative talent, inspired others through sport, helped make Slough greener, or are working hard to achieve their goals. Now is the time to celebrate them! Now in its 11th year, the awards are supported by the council’s Youth Voice team and Slough Youth Parliament. The annual ceremony started from the very first youth parliament’s manifesto commitment to raise the profile of young people in a positive way, by celebrating their many achievements. We’re inviting schools, youth organisations and community groups to nominate young people aged 11–19 (up to 25 with SEND or care leavers) for one or more of the following award categories. • Making a Difference Award - for a young person or group who makes a positive difference to the lives of others or their community. This could be through helping others, volunteering, supporting a cause, bringing people together or taking action to create positive change. • Creative Award – for a young person or group who enjoys creating or performing, such as art, music, writing, film, poetry, drama, dance, or other creative activities. • Sport and Activity Award – for a young person or group who takes part in sport, physical activity, or encourages others to be active and healthy. • Resilience Award – for a young person or group who has kept going through a difficult time, faced challenges, or shown courage and determination. • Green Award – for a young person or group helping the environment, protecting nature, reducing waste, or making their school or community greener. • Being Ambitious Award – for a young person or group working hard to reach their goals in school, college, work, training, business, or personal development. All nominees will be invited to join us for a special celebration evening recognising the incredible young people of Slough. Expect live performances, food, celebration, networking and plenty of good vibes, as we come together to celebrate their achievements and reveal this year’s winners and runners-up. Nominate by Monday 9 November, via the online form. https://forms.cloud.microsoft/pages/responsepage.aspx... This year’s awards will take place on Friday 27 November, 6-9pm at Lynch Hill Enterprise Academy, celebrating the amazing achievements, contributions and potential of young people across our borough. Councillor Puja Bedi, lead member for children and lifelong learning, said: “We are so proud of all our young people in Slough. Many past winners of the Slough Youth Awards have gone on to do amazing things, like working with major organisations, joining national committees, volunteering in their communities, moving on to higher education, and building successful careers. These awards are here to recognise that potential and celebrate the difference young people are already making today. “If you know a young person who stands out in one of our six categories, please send in your nomination before 9 November. It is inspiring every year to read about the contributions our dedicated young people have made to the community around them.” For questions or support with nominations, please contact the Youth Voice Team: sloughforyouth@slough.gov.uk
